Black retriever supports St Kilda on Glen Huntly Road

This beautiful black curly-haired retriever is backing St Kilda to win Saturday's Grand Final. He is outside Blights Shoe Repair and getting many pats from other supporters - there are a lot of St Kilda supporters on Glen Huntly Road.

I saw him a couple of times and when he was just displaying the colours and not responding to pats and conversation he was zoned out.

Brown and White Retreiver waiting in Swan Street Richmond

This beautifully groomed brown and white retriever was out and about on a cold spring day in Richmond.

Her white silky hair was so white it seemed a pity to see her sitting on a grubby pavement. She was snuggled down beside the plants at the Book Street Cafe keeping out of the way of the foot traffic. She looks very bored with it all.

Dogs, Food and Clothes on Glenhuntly Road

BLACK DOG

black nose, black mouth, black eyes

Glenhuntly Road in Elsternwick is great for dog watching.
It’s also great for fashion shopping. And great for eating.

I have had some of the best pastries in the bakeries cum cafes and delicatessens along the Elsternwick strip of Glenhuntly Road.

Black Dog waiting outisde Timothy Fine Foods - an eat-in and take away deli.

There's fashion from individual designers with a one-off shop and the more interesting chains like Kamikaze and Brown Bag Clothing. Imported fashions are well represented with a number coming from New Zealand designers and then there are very stylish clothes for older women.

It’s a Busy Street

So think Public transport - It’s a ride on a 67 tram from the city or you can get the train from Flinders Street – the Sandringham line. The station is at the edge of the shopping strip.

Check out the web site

Why am recommending it?

It abounds with dogs that are out shopping and waiting around and I like the atmosphere and the coffee and the food.

West Highland Terrier and Golden Retriever waiting

These dogs were waiting outside one of my favourite cafes – 'BookTalk' on Swan Street Richmond. I feel at home there, sipping my coffee and reading.

In the summer the outside tables are always full but this cold winter it is different. The doors are kept shut and everyone is snuggled inside except for the dogs. I am always amazed at how patient dogs can be.

If you are in Richmond how about trying the BookTalk cafe and see if you enjoy the ambience. there is usually one or two dogs around demonstrating what patience is all about..
